    Jake Bates

Jake Bates’ 64-yard field goal as time expired to give his Michigan Panthers a win on UFL’s opening weekend in March was not his first made field goal since high school, but it was framed that way by several national media outlets.

This guy is getting a lot of attention right now. Makes 60 yarders with ease. I've always been a defender of Bass but after last year I would love to see the Bills sign this kid in after the UFL season ends in June and see what he's got. I suspect there will be several teams interested.

    Thoughts?

I think we're suck with Bass for at least one more year, looking at Spotrac, the dead cap hit for Bass would be $7,380.000 and the cap hit would be about $4 million.

The Bills are still in the hunt for a SB. Cap hit or no I'm putting the best players I can on the 53. Massaging 3% of the cap can be done on a napkin in 5 minutes.

True, but there is the Haack factor to consider, they will give Bass every opportunity to keep his job. Hopefully, late year was the exception.

Yes I'm not saying just cut him. But you look at what Brandon Aubrey did last year for Dallas and it was a big deal. Bass has this cut going on with a lot of his kicks now. Half of the PAT's are an adventure. The extreme case was the kick that effectively ended the game against KC. I just want some insurance. Kickers are all a bit bonkers. maybe Bass comes back next year and he's smoking hot. Fine. But I want a guy like Bates breathing down his neck. Let the best man win cap or no cap.

Don't forget we were stuck with Diggs until we were not just say'n.

Can this kid punt as well?

If so that changes the dynamic a bit.

The best always works for me as well.

We have written some bad contracts .... Diggs, Miller and Bass.

              I'm sure there are others.

When you can correct it you do!

And it doesn't need to be that type of napkin .... I know where your minds were going.

I’ve wanted Bass replaced for quite a while now. He comes up small too often.

Any competition we bring in would be welcome.

Yeah, bring him to camp and may the best man win.

This team is a perennial playoff loser, nobody's job should be a given.

Exactly. The team has one untouchable, that’s it.

I'd like to have a kicker prospect on the practice squad to develop. You can't roster two without making unwelcome sacrifices elsewhere. But if Bass gets four games in and still has the yips, it's better to have someone in the pipeline than going to the street for a FA.
Wake up, brush your teeth, and get ready for a day of hating the Dolphins. Or the Pats? How to choose?

They signed an undrafted player who was the punter and kicker for San Diego State University.

If another kicker gives them the best chance to win some extra dead caps space should not matter. They need to have legitimate competition for Bass his performance last season.
