ESPN may be thrilled with its much-promoted Playmakers series about a fictionalized pro football team, but the NFL Players Association is concerned with scenes that they believe portray negative stereotypes including a heavy dose of drug-related material.
"It's a completely inaccurate, misinformed and unfair view of what happens in the locker rooms of the NFL," says Doug Allen, assistant executive director of the NFLPA and a former linebacker with the Buffalo Bills. "It's disappointing that a network like ESPN comes up with something that is so far beyond the pale. It concentrates on stereotypes and negatives to the point of being evil. We've heard from a number of players who have told us how offended they are."
