Bobby Shaw is now wearing #81. I didn't notice that until last week. Sorry if this has been discussed already.

Is it not a slap in the face for them to issue #81 that quickly after Price left us? I know the numbering system in the NFL is laid out in a certain way, but did they have to give Shaw #81 so soon?

I don't think so. It happens all the time in the NFL. Its no disrespect to him, and I doubt he would see it like that. Anyway, there were only two numbers available for him, 81 or 87, and he the 81 is a better look because he isn't very wide. :bigmike:

It is knid of common since there are only so many numbers and each series has a specific purpose (80' eligible pass catcher, 1-19 specialists, etc) after Lofton left, Bill Brooks wore 80 the next season. Didn't Kamil Loud wear 89 the season after Tasker left? The only numbers that you won't see on the field are 12, 32, 34 and 78. They all seem to be hands off.

I thought it disrespectful that Collins was allowed to have #15.

Besides, Price wasn't a long time Super Star here anyway.

Shaw showed similar skills without the taunting/personal fowl penalties.

I agree. And 16 should be off limits too.

:lolcry:

Definitely...we shouldn't besmirch the memories of such greats as Dennis "Balloon Ball" Shaw and Stan Gelbaugh!

Right. Receivers don't have too many #s to choose from. I remember everyone being POd about Moore taking #83. Well there are only 10 numbers in the 80s, so they can't worry about things like that.

Are you kidding me with this post? What, do we have to start a mourning period for our dearly departed Price? It's a freakin jersey number! :puke::viohit:

Peerless had 1 good year for us. Big deal. I agree about the Dave moore #83 issue. Andre is the best receiver the Bills ever had. That being said there are not many #s to choose from.

i thought it was rude when drew bledsoe just came in here and took 11.. after rob johnson has represented it so well, for 5 years.

Screw Price. I like him, and hope he succeeds in Atlanta, but he leaves no legacy as a Buffalo BIll. He only had one great year here. See ya.

I agree. He had one good year and one outstanding year. A lot of guys do that and disappear. He holds no legacy as a Bill and, no, I don't think it was a slap in his face at all. We had no reason to throw a low blow at him. He put up great numbers and felt that he could be a number 1 guy somewhere. There's nothing wrong with that what so ever. He never said he's better than our number 1 guy and he never started any team controversy. Good for him, he had a great year and deserves a shot. We never a reason to give him the old "****". Plus, with him going we were able to get TKO!!! How's that for a tradeoff?

yeah, i had a real problem with drew disrespecting rob with the number 11. hahaha!

I don't think it's rude to have someone else's jersey #. I mean the Bills didn't retire it right, so what's the big deal?!

What were we supposed to do, retire Price's number? He really didn't show much respect for us, either, in his haste to get to Atlanta. I hope he continues to catch 2 passes per game, like he did in his fabulous Falcon debut.

It's been issued twice since Price left. Unless that was just Charles what's his names practice #...anyway, I don't care because I need a name to go with my zone member #!

Unlike most of the people who responded to you, Northern, I tend to agree with you. I think after a player who has been on the team two years leaves, the number should not be worn for a year out of respect. But, apparently we're in a minority here. lol

EXACTLY! Charles Johnson had the jersey # first. :D But had to let it go when he was CUT. :snicker:

That was Bobby Shaw's number in Jacksonville so when it became available, he took it.
12, 32, 34, and 78 are the only numbers I see not being issued to anyone for a long time. (in the case of 12, ever)
15 went over 2 decades before it was issued again in the regular season (I'm sure it was used in training camp) but that was a different situation. Like many have already said, it's in the 80s, where there are few numbers to give.

I agree, one good year shouldn't entitle ones number to be 'sacred'...and there are only so many numbers available per position anyway.....but perhaps it does beg the question....whose number deserves to be retired and why?
