Warner cleared to play, but Rams don't want him to

As quickly as he bounced back, Kurt Warner is wondering if he really did suffer a concussion in the St. Louis Rams' opener.

"I took a shot one way or the other that caused some of the symptoms," the two-time MVP said Friday, when he was cleared to play Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. "But I've had some doctors say that concussions are a relative term and others have said this may not even classify as a concussion."

I heard on ESPN radio this morning that Bulger will be starting indefinitely. The Rams won today BTW with Bulger at the helm -- Rams did pretty good last year with Bulger at the helm. But I digress..

Right now Martz's stance is that Bulger will play unless he gets hurt. Then he'll bring Warner back in. Warner doesn't like it but he's not going to argue. My concern is that if Warner does go back in, can he stay healthy (i.e. his injury plagued hand) enough to guide the Rams to the super bowl. Sure he's the vet, but does he still have enough gas to go the distance? I think the jury is still out to some respect on Bulger (flash in the pan or real deal) and I'm curious to see if he does actually play more than 6 or 7 games this year, and of course how well he does.

And no not all of the Rams woes are to be on the shoulders of the QBs. Martz has been making some really stupid calls (including two last week against the Giants in which he should have brought the field goal unit out instead of going for it on fourth down) lately and they're going to end up shooting themselves in the foot because of it.

I have a feeling this is going to be a loooooooooooong season...

Also.... how do ya feel about this article?

In the first half of Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers at the Edward Jones Dome, Faulk rushed seven times for 16 yards and caught two passes for four yards. He would finish with 18 rushes for 57 yards and four receptions for 33 yards despite missing part of the third quarter after getting poked in the eye.

In the postmortem of the Rams' 27-24 overtime victory, Martz bristled when asked why Faulk didn't get many touches until the second half, which began with St. Louis trailing 10-7.

Yup Rams fan.. even from back in the day they were in LA (hey that rhymed).

Unknown about how much time either QB has on their contract. I'll see if I can do some digging around between patients this afternoon.

Interesting article. Personally I think Faulk is frustrated, but he's not going to tell that to the Media. Same way with an article out of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch today in which Martz named Bulger as the starter against Seattle this coming Sunday. Warner gave no comment, but you know darn well he's itching to get back on the field. Warner is a strong field general when he's protected by the front line and allowed to mix things up a bit (throwing vs handing off to say.. faulk and letting him go). Bulger also has that potential.

But I digress.. back to Faulk. I don't understand why Faulk isn't getting nearly as many touches as he has previously. In a small way I agree with Martz that part of what you do is dependent on who you play, but lately I think he's been rehashing the same plays over the last two weeks, and it's starting to look sloppy. Martz needs to open up and establish the run in the first half. Faulk should get at least 25-35 touches per game and be allowed to run, because in my mind, i think they've under utilized the ground game.

I agree. Faulk's a deadly weapon as a runner. But Martz seems to want to use him as a reciever. As for who should QB? Doesn't matter since the front line can't protect either one of them very well at this point. May as well stay with Bulger rather than risk Warner getting his throwing hand injured at this stage in the season.

Good post Kat. I agree with what you said. Although, I wouldn't be surprised to see Warner move on after this season (depending on his contract). Who would have thought that the Patriots would dump Bledsoe.
