    Fins end Meadowlands streak with win over Jets

    EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- The Miami Dolphins went back to their reliable formula against the New York Jets: Give the ball to Ricky Williams.

    Again. And again. And again.

    Williams ran for 125 yards on 34 carries and the Dolphins rebounded from an embarrassing loss to the Houston Texans with a 21-10 victory over the rival Jets on Sunday. Miami won at the Meadowlands for the first time since 1997, and avoided its first 0-2 start in 15 years.

    No gloating from Wannstedt

    This was after the crushing loss, after the hate mail, after the radio poison, after all the accusations of incompetence and after South Florida's rabid, relentless calls for his firing.

    Dolphins coach Dave Wannstedt sat down with his wife, Jan, last week, and together they suffered.

    ''Let's rank the devastations,'' he said.

    And so they did. They reviewed his entire coaching career, devastation by devastation, and agreed that last week's Houston loss was among the most calamitous and hurtful in his more than three decades in football -- right up there with the University of Miami's staggering championship loss to a huge Penn State underdog in the 1986 Fiesta Bowl, back when Wannstedt was an assistant under Jimmy Johnson.
