DENVER -- The NFL is investigating whether Denver coach Mike Shanahan broke a rule when he lied about quarterback Jake Plummer's injury in a victory at San Diego.

The Broncos initially said Plummer sustained a concussion in the second quarter of Sunday's 37-13 win over the Chargers. After the game, Shanahan announced his quarterback had a separated right shoulder.

He said he lied because the Chargers would have had an advantage if backup Steve Beuerlein got hurt and Plummer had to re-enter the game. Denver carries just two quarterbacks....

Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan, who lied about quarterback Jake Plummer's injury Sunday, said it's "ludicrous" that the NFL expects him to reveal details about players' injuries during games.

Well, it seems some of the people who cover the NFL are a little upset at the coach for lying about an injury to one of his players at halftime of the Broncos' game on Sunday.

Actually, let me put it this way. They aren't upset at him for lying. They are upset at him for lying to them.

Yes, Mike, you picked on the wrong people this time.

Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan was cleared of any wrongdoing Thursday after explaining to league officials why he lied about Jake Plummer's injury during a game last weekend.

"The key is we're on the same page and moving forward, so the matter that occurred last Sunday is closed," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said. "We're satisfied that it is resolved."

I'm surprised that there's not some comments about this. I was wondering what everyone's take on it was. As a fan, I'm always intrested in finding out that an injury isn't serious. But, I have to agree with Shanahan, I wouldn't want to give the opposition any help with their game plan. I think this is another example of the media getting in the way. (like blowing things out of proportion and trying to cause controversy.)

NEW YORK -- Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan is getting hit with a substantial fine after all.

Shanahan escaped with a slap on the wrist this week for "fibbing" about the nature of an injury to QB Jake Plummer, but he's about to be slapped with a major sum for a decision he made to disregard another NFL rule.

Mike Shanahan could not tell a lie. At least not this time.

A week after Denver coach lied about an injury to quarterback Jake Plummer, the Broncos said running back Clinton Portis was out because of a coach's decision.
