Talk to Andy Reid about the development of Donovan McNabb and it's a pretty good bet he'll eventually work Brett Favre's name into the conversation.

As everyone knows, Reid was an assistant coach on Mike Holmgren's staff in Green Bay from 1992 through '98.

He watched Favre grow up as an NFL quarterback. Watched him develop from a cannon-armed project to a three-time league MVP. Watched him guide the Packers to three consecutive division titles, two conference championships and a Super Bowl victory.

Favre's career has served as a "how-to" guide for Reid in McNabb's development. The Eagles coach frequently compares McNabb to Favre at similar points in their careers.

The Eagles are getting a brief and apparently much-needed respite from their struggles with a bye this week. They finished a second day of light workouts Wednesday, and will be off until Monday, when they begin preparations for a Sept. 28 road game against the Buffalo Bills.

Coach Andy Reid has used these two days trying to figure out what he can do to improve an offense that's scored just 10 points total in losses to Tampa Bay and New England.
