View Full Version : What's the big deal about the run game?

So we haven't run as much in the past 2 games. It's the end of the world. BIG DEAL!

There is no rule saying you have to run the ball and pass the ball an equal amount of times. Sure that's traditional, but who wants tradition?

If a DC is keying on the run, eother because that's how they choose to attack, or that's where they are the strongest, then it makes sense to pass more than you run. Look at the Patriots - they have not run the ball "well", but they are 3-0! IT's not that they can't run the ball, it's that they've chosen to attack opposing defenses where they are weakest. I see nothing wrong with this, and apparently Gilbride doesn't either.

Throwing the ball more than you run is not the end of the world - especially with Bledsoe as your QB and Reed, Price, and Moulds as your WRs.

No particularly. But eventually the passing game isn't going to pull us through. We aren't 3-0, we're 1-2. If we'd had had some semblance of a rushing game, then we would have absolutely killed Minnesota and had a much better chance of beating Denver.

N.E. is immaterial. They have a D, STs, and coaching that we can only dream about right now.

We have to work w/in the confines of what we have. Not what other teams have or don't have.

Think about it. If we happen to find the running game, just think about the potential on offense that we unleash! It's HUGE. Until we do, we're a very one-dimensional team.

Great passing
No rushing
No rush D
Mediocre pass D
Poor to fair STs

That will start catching up to us.

The last time we had a great passing and running game we went to 4 straight SB's.

We also had a better Defense and better Special Teams.

A good run game keeps the defense honest. With no run game the defense can key on Bledsoe and double the recievers because there is no threat of a run. We really need to get the running game going. If Henry isnt the man we need to find who is !

NE may not be rushing the ball much, but they are rushing it well when they try. They are averaging 4.1 Yds/Carry as a team. The gameplans are dictating they pass more from the start, but that doesn't mean they are having trouble rushing the ball.

Antowain Smith is the 5th leading rusher in the AFC and is averaging 4.5 yds/carry. Despite the fact he hasn't seen the ball 20 times in any of the Pats games he is on a pace for 1163 Yards for the season.
