(September 27, 2003) — BRIGHTON — The ball cap looks like it came right off the throwback rack at a team merchandise store, but in reality, the blue and gold Buffalo Sabres hat Jim Lorentz has been wearing to the rink came out of the family home on Grand Island.

“It’s my favorite uniform so I thought I’d pull it out for camp,” Lorentz said of the color scheme used by the Sabres from their inception in 1970 until 1996-97. “It’s symbolic of a great team.”

A team for which his father, Jim Sr., finished his 10-year NHL playing career in 1978, the same team for which Dad has been providing color analysis from the broadcast booth for 22 years.
