With the Jets' season all but lost, this is a good time to focus on the future. Next offseason, prepare for bloodshed. It will be messier than an episode of the "Sopranos."
The Jets, clearly heading into a transitional period — some might call it rebuilding — will try to get younger and faster by breaking up the "Parcells Core."
Aging veterans such as Mo Lewis, Marvin Jones and Vinny Testaverde will be cut loose. Sam Garnes, Sam Cowart, Aaron Beasley, Dave Szott and Curtis Conway — all free-agent additions from the past two years — are on the bubble. When the gutting is over, the Jets will have more than $10 million in "dead" money on their 2004 salary cap. Not good.
