    Packers obtain returner Swinton

Still uncertain whether Antonio Chatman is the right man for their return job, the Green Bay Packers swung a deal Tuesday afternoon for Dallas Cowboys receiver-returner Reggie Swinton.

The Packers dealt a conditional draft choice to the Cowboys for the 28-year-old Swinton, a veteran of six teams in four leagues. A source said the Packers would give up a seventh-round pick in 2004 provided undisclosed requirements were met.

Acquiring Swinton gives the Packers an opportunity to look at a faster, more polished alternative to Chatman, the team's kickoff and punt returner. Last year, Swinton ranked 10th in the National Football League in kickoff returns with a 24.9-yard average.

He also averaged 7.4 yards per punt return, though he did not have enough returns to qualify for the league rankings.
