I tried posting this last week but everyone put it in the context of the game and didn't answer the question....

Does anyone think that the instant replay in it's current incarnationn is useless? Don't get me wrong- I think the refs make more mistakes than they should and any safeguard against that is inherently good.

But think about it- the most controversial plays in football can't be reviewed:
If a pass is ruled incomplete,
If a runner is ruled down before a fumble
A missed penalty or a penalty that shouldn't have been called

Other than out of bounds (which is reviewable), these areas are where the refs make the MOST mistakes. What's the point of having the replay if it can't be used against the most controversial calls?

Again, I don't want to discuss this in relation to last week's game- just as a general rule

I think a ref is gonna get doinked in the head with a beer bottle while he's checking the sideline monitor one of these games.
