DETROIT (AP) -- Detroit Lions rookie wide receiver Charles Rogers broke his right collarbone in practice Tuesday and is expected to miss at least a month.

Rogers, the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, got tangled up with cornerback Dre' Bly and was taken to a local hospital.

"It looks like it is going to be a matter of weeks before he is going to be able to return," head coach Steve Mariucci said.

Rogers leads the Lions with 22 receptions for 243 yards and three touchdowns in five games....

Here's how bad the Lions' luck is running: They couldn't even get through their bye week without a loss.

About 20 minutes into the first practice of a light workweek, they lost rookie wide receiver Charles Rogers with a broken collarbone Tuesday.

Although the Lions gave no target date for Rogers' return, he is expected to be out 4-8 weeks.

"I'll look at it as worst-case," president Matt Millen said. "I'll put a long time frame on it and hope they give me a better time frame. I'll look at it in my own mind as eight weeks or so."

Millen and coach Steve Mariucci expressed hope that Rogers would play again this season. The Lions (1-4) have 11 games left.

"It's one of those things that happens in practice on occasion," Mariucci said. "Very unfortunate for him. We're counting on the other guys obviously to become healthy and productive and make up the slack -- Az Hakim, Scotty Anderson, Shawn Jefferson and Billy Schroeder. They've got to get it done

Lions rookie wide receiver Charles Rogers says he has set no target date for his return from a broken collarbone, but he hopes it will be soon.

"All I can say is hopefully I can be back as soon as possible and go from there," Rogers said Thursday. "I can't really put a time on it.

"One thing about it, everybody's body heals different. Some bodies heal faster than others. Hopefully, I'm one of the lucky ones."...

ALLEN PARK -- Charles Rogers' broken right collarbone is a few weeks away from healing sufficiently for him to return to the football field, but his spirit and enthusiasm are intact.

Rogers, a rookie receiver who was injured Oct. 7 during a bye-week practice, is doing as much as he can so he'll be prepared to return to the practice field and games when Lions doctors clear him to play.

"One thing about life, you've got a lot of obstacles you have to overcome," Rogers said after practice Thursday. "It's an obstacle I have to overcome. One thing I can guarantee is that I'll bounce back, just because of the person I am and the type of guy I am. That's life....
