    Holmgren lost a title, but gained a better team

    Of all the changes Mike Holmgren has made to the Seahawks in four- plus seasons, he might have made the most important change to himself. Holmgren managed to put aside his ego this year, and that has much to do with Seattle's improvement.

    With a victory over the 49ers on Sunday night, the Seahawks would be 4-1 for the first time since 1986 and 3-0 in division games for the first time in team history.

    During the offseason, Holmgren's job was reduced from a mouthful to a syllable: coach. He is no longer the general manager.
