    Vikings re-sign healthier Sawyer

The Vikings wanted to re-sign Talance Sawyer since the offseason began but a serious leg injury kept delaying those plans.

But after an impressive workout, the defensive lineman is once again a Viking. The team released rookie Colin Cole to make room for Sawyer.

Sawyer suffered multiple leg injuries last October and was lost for the season. His rehabilitation was slowed and he was just recently cleared to resume playing. A favorite of the coaching staff, Sawyer tried to come back before training camp but wasn't ready.

Sawyer, 6 feet 2, 270 pounds, likely will need a couple of weeks to get back into playing shape. When he returns, he'll be in the rotation and add some pass-rush ability. Sawyer, a sixth-round draft choice in 1999, was a starting end in 2001.

Cole was released for the second time this season. He could return to the practice squad.
