After weeks of bad news, better days could be ahead for the Jets.

After experiencing only minor soreness in his left hand Tuesday, a day after his first stint of taking snaps and throwing in practice, Chad Pennington could be ready to return perhaps three weeks earlier than originally estimated, said a person with knowledge of the situation.
The team has been extremely cautious about publicly setting a timetable for Pennington's return. But a person close to the quarterback, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Tuesday that Pennington is well ahead of schedule in his recovery from Aug. 23 surgery to repair multiple dislocations and a fracture in his left wrist.
In view of his speedy recovery, the Jets have not ruled out the possibility that Pennington could return to his starting role as early as Oct. 26 at Philadelphia, the person said. Mark your calendars, Jets fans. That's 18 days from Wednesday. If the Jets can beat Buffalo at home Sunday and Houston on the road next week, they would be 2-4 entering that game.
