Cardinals coach Dave McGinnis would love for backup running back Marcel Shipp to run for 150 yards a game in Emmitt Smith’s absence.
“He can run for 400 (a game),” McGinnis quipped.
But McGinnis said without hesitation Tuesday that Smith will be his starter when he returns from a fractured scapula.
“(Emmitt) hasn’t done anything to lose it,” McGinnis said.
That could become an issue at some point. McGinnis admitted it is difficult to pinpoint any time frame for Smith’s recovery from the hairline fracture of the left shoulder blade and the team will simply have to monitor his rehabilitation.
But, said McGinnis, “I have no doubts he’ll be back.”
Smith told KNXV (Ch. 15) he has been told the injury will put him out four to six weeks.
