In the midst of the treatment he received on his battered right shoulder Monday, Jake Plummer went from quarterback to editor, telling reporters how to describe his latest injury.
"Whatever you have in your old notes, you can rewrite it," Plummer said Monday.

During last month's 37-13 victory at San Diego, Plummer suffered a mythical concussion and a more disconcerting first-degree shoulder separation that left him questionable for the Monday night game against the Oakland Raiders.

This week, Plummer has what Broncos coach Mike Shanahan is calling a bruised shoulder that is "quite sore right now." Monday, Plummer struggled to raise his right shoulder, raising questions about his availability for Sunday's home game against Pittsburgh.

Jake Plummer appears on pace to catch predecessor Brian Griese in the amount of discussion devoted to the health of throwing shoulders sometime before the end of this season.

Plummer's availability for an upcoming game is in question for the second time in three weeks. He suffered a reinjury of his right shoulder during the fourth quarter of Sunday's 24-23 loss in Kansas City when he was slammed to the turf while trying to unload the ball with just more than 6 minutes left.

Shoulder woes dog Plummer

With its 3-4 defense, the Pittsburgh Steelers bring a different look to Denver. But the Broncos might counter with their own.
Steve Beuerlein might start at quarterback.

Regular starter Jake Plummer did not practice Wednesday because of a shoulder injury that, in some ways, is worse than the first-degree shoulder separation he suffered in Week 2 at San Diego

DENVER (AP) -- Jake Plummer tested his sore right shoulder with some short passes Thursday, but the Denver Broncos won't know if their quarterback will be able to play Sunday until he throws deep.

Plummer was too sore to practice Wednesday, but he made it through Thursday without any problem. He will increase the length of his passes Friday before the team decides if he can play against Pittsburgh.

"We still didn't ask him to throw it more than 20 yards," Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said. "Hopefully there's no setback and he'll get better tomorrow."...

Burden put on shoulder of Plummer

Jake Plummer still hasn't done enough to convince Denver Broncos coaches he'll be ready to play Sunday, though he at least was back throwing Thursday.

"He's feeling better," coach Mike Shanahan said of Plummer, who last week reinjured a mild shoulder separation. "But we're not asking him to throw more than 20 yards

Plummer will have to show coaches he can do that during a short practice today. If he doesn't, Steve Beuerlein will make his first start of the season Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers (2:15 p.m., KCNC-Channel 4).

Shanahan had said Wednesday he had a gut feeling which direction he would go.
