Those who criticized the 49ers' hiring of Dennis Erickson as head coach did not do so because of Erickson's two national championships as coach of the University of Miami, nor because of his stewardship of the once-woeful, now-fierce Oregon State Beavers.
Mostly, critics said, Erickson had not proved he could win in the NFL.
This weekend, Erickson travels to the place where that theory was born....
