The Saints and Michael Lewis reached an agreement Tuesday on a two-year contract extension that will keep the Pro Bowl return man with the team through the 2005 season, the club announced Wednesday.
Lewis, who set an NFL season record for combined kickoff and punt return yardage with 2,432 yards last season, is expected to sign the incentive-laden deal within the next week. Financial terms of the deal were not released, but Lewis is expected to receive a signing bonus of about $700,000.
"This is my home," Lewis said. "I've lived here all my life. This is where I'm from, and this is where I want to finish. I don't want to go somewhere else and have to learn a whole new system and different players. I have confidence in this team that we are going to turn it around and get this straightened out. To me, this is a family."
