    Falcons stunned by Rams shutout

It was just another episode of Monday Nightmare Football for the Falcons.

They lost their fifth consecutive game Monday, 36-0 to the St. Louis Rams. It was Atlanta's first shutout defeat in a decade, since a 6-0 loss to the Chicago Bears on Oct. 3, 1993. But then, the Falcons are clearly allergic to Monday Night Football, where their record is a league-worst 6-18.

The locker room was odd afterward. Players did not seem despondent so much as dazed. Outgained 496 yards to 209 after mustering only 38 yards in the second half, after allowing a franchise-record fourth safety of the season, there wasn't much to say. Nobody blew up. Nothing was thrown, at least not in plain view.

Doug Johnson was 10-of-23 for 134 yards as the Falcons dropped to 1-5. "It was probably the worst game as a team I've ever seen in my life," he said.

Someone asked quarterback Doug Johnson what the Falcons could take out of Monday night.

"A whipping is what I can take," he said. "It was probably the worst game as a team I've ever seen in my life."

This is not to suggest there wasn't a little heat to be found.

This was by far the best the Rams have played this season. Bulger did well in the pocket and the O-line protected him very very well. The defense also looked very strong, and it was great wearing my #98 jersey as Grant Wistrom got a safety.

Torry Holt and Marc Bulger both made the horsetrailer.
