Dick Jauron has been standing squarely in Kordell Stewart's corner during the Bears' disappointing start, but the coach was conspicuously absent from that position Monday, fueling speculation that Stewart will be benched.

Stewart lost two fumbles that led to 10 New Orleans points Sunday in a 20-13 loss and was 10-of-21 for 152 yards as the offense continued to limp along. The usually unflappable Jauron was testy at times during his Monday news conference and refused to address whether Stewart would be replaced for Sunday's game at Seattle (3:15 p.m., Fox-32, 780-AM). That is a departure from previous weeks in which Jauron was quick to affirm Stewart's role in the aftermath of other poor outings.

"Personnel-wise, we won't do anything until Wednesday,'' Jauron said. "We'll certainly talk [Monday] and [today] as a staff and look at everything. But we won't make any of those decisions, or at least announce any of those decisions.

"Kordell made some terrific plays. Then there were some plays that not only he, but most people that played out there, left out on the field.''
