With the emergence of defensive end Shaun Ellis as a possible Pro Bowl candidate, it will be interesting to see how Jets general manager Terry Bradway and assistant general manager Mike Tannenbaum handle the re-signings of Ellis, defensive end John Abraham and quarterback Chad Pennington in the coming months.

All have one year left on their contracts after this season.

And there also is the matter of re-signing right tackle Kareem McKenzie, who becomes a restricted free agent after this season.

Those four players -- all in their primes -- are a large part of the Jets' young nucleus, one that the Jets hope can take them to the Super Bowl in another season or two.

Will Bradway and Tannenbaum be reactive, as they were in their failed attempts to re-sign wide receiver Laveranues Coles and kick returner Chad Morton? Or will they be proactive and try to sign the players before they land on the open market or before their price tags skyrocket?

The Jets also need to sign a top-tier free agent or two this off-season to fill holes.
