Did anyone see the Oct 13 Sports Illustrated

They compared the goalie pad size from the mid-80's to now.

Back then, the total pad area was 11.4 square feet.
Now the total pad area takes up 14 square feet.
(Total goal opening is 24 square feet)
    ...a 26 % increase in pad area

Avg. goals per game in the mid-80's was 7.9
Avg. goals per game now is 5.3
    ...a 33 % decline

While changes to game strategy have played a big part (i.e. the trap, although I'd go out on a limb to say that the Montreal Canadiens perfected the trap in the late 70's, 15 years before teams like the Devils ressurected it), I'd really take goalies statistics today with a grain of salt, kind of like pitching statistics before they lowered the mounds from 15" to 10" in 1968.

As a goalie myself, I have no problem with the large pad sizes, but as a Hockey fan who wants the best for the NHL, make those goalies reduce the size of their pads!

People watch hockey for the scoring and fights...

Smaller goalie pads= smaller space in net taken up by goalie...

    Larger shooting area= more goals...

    More goals= more exciting games...

    More exciting games= More fans!

    Put two plus two together!

Not a piece of my soul that I ain't searched
The only answer I found for all this hurt
