    ALLEN PARK -- The rebuilding of the Dallas Cowboys is right on schedule.

    Bill Parcells' schedule, that is.

    Although the Cowboys' 4-1 record looks great, as does being in first place in the NFC East, it's not time to start thinking Super Bowl in Dallas just yet.

    By nearly any other yardstick, the Cowboys have made the biggest turnaround of any team in the NFL. With a victory over the Lions on Sunday at Ford Field -- Dallas is favored -- the Cowboys would match their victory total in each of the last three seasons.

    But only one standard counts in Dallas: Parcells'.

    Dallas coach Bill Parcells is known for his ability to turn teams around, to relate to his players and, specifically, for winning largely with defense. That's a reputation that Parcells has carried since his Lawrence Taylor days with the New York Giants.

    But Parcells' method is more complex than that. Among other things, he has a formula on offense that bucks current convention: A quarterback who can get the ball downfield.
