The Indianapolis Colts have reached a contract extension with team president Bill Polian, assuring continuity with one of the NFL's most successful franchises over the past five seasons.
Owner Jim Irsay confirmed Monday evening that he and Polian have agreed to a five-year extension, tying Polian to the organization through the 2009 draft. Polian's contract was due to expire after the 2004 draft.
Financial terms were not available, but Irsay said the new contract places Polian among "the upper echelon" of team executives.
"He's right there with the top guys . . . (Tampa Bay's) Rich McKay and (Kansas City's) Carl Peterson," Irsay said. "And rightly so. This has been on ongoing process and I'm happy we were able to get it done."
Polian said he hasn't been preoccupied by when, or if, an extension would be forthcoming.
