Kelly Holcomb revealed he has torn ligaments in his right ankle, which might explain why the Browns quarterback has been making slow progress with a hairline fracture in his right leg suffered a month ago at San Francisco.

Browns Coach Butch Davis still refused to name Tim Couch the starter for Sunday's game at New England, though. On Monday, Davis said he would have a decision Wednesday, which has been his approach in recent weeks.

``We'll have an update at probably 12 o'clock on Sunday. Stay tuned,'' Davis said.

Holcomb is not listed on this week's injury report, which includes four starters on the offensive line and running back William Green. Left tackle Barry Stokes left practice on crutches with his sprained right ankle in a hard cast.

The surprise about Holcomb came when he was asked about a report of bleeding in his fractured fibula. Ligaments have never been mentioned since Holcomb was hurt Sept. 21. Holcomb also sprained his left ankle that day, but said it is now fine.
