With their depleted numbers continuing to plague the team, the Raiders may be ready to make a roster decision on linebacker Bill Romanowski as soon as today.
"I am involved in a meeting that will involve that decision," coach Bill Callahan said Wednesday.
There's a chance Romanowski could go on injured reserve.
"I am not sure yet," Callahan said. "I am going to be involved in that with our medical staff, our general manager (Bruce Allen) and all parties concerned."
Romanowski, 37, has been weighing the wisdom of continuing to play football or whether to retire after 16 NFL seasons.
Returning to practice Wednesday after Monday night's 17-10 loss to Kansas City, Callahan was greeted with an injury list that included 23 names. Nine did not practice and several more took limited repetitions.
"We had to modify the practice today," Callahan said. "We couldn't even work against the scout team today. If we were to play a game this weekend, we would be in a little trouble."
Callahan said the team may bring in some new players to help out but added "we haven't decided to bring anybody in."
The arrival of the bye week will give him an opportunity to conduct tryouts. There could be roster spots available from the roster of special-teams players. Callahan was bitterly disappointed with up-front blocking on kickoff returns against the Chiefs.
