Hotel, airfare, car rental, food, fuel (these rentals don't run on battery power), and other items! Maybe I should bill One Bills Drive for this.
Positives from last night? Lemme see:
1. Run blocking-Travis did find some holes to run through this time.
2. Travis-he ran very hard, hitting the hole and not dancing around to make people miss. He ran with power.
3. Moorman-by keeping his punts up high and long, he was able to keep Hall from burning us in the return game.
Negatives? Oh boy......here we go:
1. Bledsoe-one Gawd awful performance! Sure he had a rush in his face often, but he has to have better awareness in the pocket. If it isn't there, THROW THE DAMN BALL AWAY!!!!!! What did he have, 5 turnovers? Ugly.
2. Pass protection-anyone else catch Teague being tossed around like a rag doll? Not to mention Pucillo, who is just a terrible guard. Can we PLEASE replace him now, Gregg???
3. (lack of a) Pass Rush-GET TO THE DAMN QUARTERBACK!!!!!!!!! Posey, Denney (sucks), Schobel (decent, but not enough) and the rest of them have generated no heat on opposing QBs for the most part this season. I don't look for this to improve until next year. These guys simply don't have what it takes and, like the DTs last year, are bringing the entire defense down.
4. Play calling-again, we're throwing the ball in short yardage/goal line situations far too often. This sucks. Gilbride has shown that he cannot run this offense in those situations, but who could do better? Gregg? Steckel? Anyone?
5. Tackling-guys are missing the runner/receiver/QB right at the point of attack and are being shed for big gains way too much. I saw Holmes run right out of the 'tackles' of Adams, Denney, and Milloy. I also remember Green shaking off a sack for a big gain ON THE GROUND!! Trent Green?? C'mon now, guys!
6. Coverage-I guess we went back to the Jets game planning for this one. Nobody was anywhere near their man for most of this game. The safeties were out of position and just too slow to get to the ball. The corners were also awful. Bad game all around for these guys.
7. Intangibles-does this horrible performance mean that we're going to have another 'stern talking to' by Spikes and company? Is this another "we've got to get the fire back" scenario? How many more of these will we be subjected to? That will make it easier on us; we'll know which games they'll be fired up for and which ones they'll lay an egg in.
With the bye week on us now, I'm getting ready for an even longer "Rhetoric Period". You know, the time when you'll hear this:
(add name of Bills player/coach/exec here) "...............................execute........................make plays................play with emotion.....................get things corrected..........blah blah blah..."
This is all I could think of on very little sleep. I'm sure I'll think of more once I have more of a chance to digest this 'game'. I feel ill.
