    Slaughter arrested on gun charge

Fernandina Beach man whose call led to the arrest Sunday night of Jaguars linebacker T.J. Slaughter said he would not have called police had he known Slaughter's identity.
"I really like the Jaguars," David J. Hickey said Monday. "I wouldn't have even called the cops."

An encounter with Slaughter on the highway led to the linebacker's arrest on a charge of felony assault with a firearm.

Slaughter, 26, was accused of pointing a gun at Hickey, 19, and another man as they admired the wheel rims on Slaughter's Lexus.

Police said they found a loaded .40-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun and extra ammunition in Slaughter's vehicle after he stopped at The Gold Club in Arlington.

Slaughter denied pointing a gun at the two men, who pulled beside him in a Mustang GT as he drove down Florida 9A.

Slaughter was released Monday from the Duval County jail. He declined comment as he walked to a waiting vehicle with Jaguars director of football operations Skip Richardson and agent Michael Huyghue.
