    Question.....

Are there big hockey rivalries like there are in other sports? For instance, you know the Bills hav a big rivalry with the Dolphins and the Cowboys with the Redskins. Are there hockey ones too? The reason I'm asking is I went to buy tickets to a few Caps games this year and the Red Wings are already sold out. Are they a big Capital rivalry? I don't know.

Edmonton/Calgary The New York Triplets (Isles, Rangers, Devils) Boston/Montreal, Buffalo / Toronto

But most of these don't really fester until the playoffs

Thanks, guys! :) Do the Caps have any big rivalries? Why is the Red Wings game sold out?

Leafs/Canadiens has always been the biggest rivalry in the NHL, and more recently the Leafs/Senators has become big.

You haven't seen a hockey crowd at it's finest until you've been to a Leafs/Canadiens game at either rink, doesn't matter if it's regular or post season.

Whatever. At least the Leafs have made the playoffs in recent memory.

All this information is great! Thanks, I appreciate it. But, does anyone know if the Washington Capitals have a rivalry?

                  90's - Pittsburgh
                  80's - Islanders and Philadelphia
I can't recall them making the playoffs in the 70's

Ahhh, okay, thanks, Doug. I kinda thought one of the Philadelphia teams was a rival. They made a HUGE deal about getting Jagr. He came from one of those PA teams, I think. I just wanted to go to a game where the crowd would be totally nuts. Thanks again for your help. :)

I think the whole thing with the RedWings is a similar thing as your Cowboys, J.
They have this whole Titletown/Hockeytown monkier that people either love or are sick of hearing about.

I think only Detroit fans think they are "Hockeytown". I would think if any city deserves that moniker, it'd be either Montreal, or Toronto.

A big rivalry no one has mentioned yet is the Avs/Wings. They have a rivalry that is huge, as well.

I think the Canes are now up there with Philly as Caps' rivals. My brother lives in Carolina, and I'm pretty sure the Caps and Canes are both on the Comcast cable channel. And now they're both in the same division, the lowly central

Hockeytown is just a Detroit restauraunt across the road from Comerica Park. It's marketing, strictly marketing, but us Canadians get a chuckle out of it anyway.
