Short-handed Texans pull off shocker, whip Panthers

HOUSTON -- With the Houston Texans relying on backups at quarterback and tailback, tight end Billy Miller lent a hand.

Miller split two defenders for a one-handed touchdown catch early in the fourth quarter -- just his second score of the season -- and the Texans shut down the Carolina Panthers 14-10 Sunday.

Carolina, which has lost two of three games after a 5-0 start, took a 10-7 lead on John Kasay's 23-yard field goal at the end of a third quarter in which each team had one possession. ...

Texans see 'Red' in win against Panthers

JAMIE Sharper jokingly said last week the Battle Red jerseys the Texans wore for the first time Sunday looked, of all things, feminine.

If the Texans linebacker and his teammates could be assured of Sunday's result in each of their remaining games, they no doubt would be happy to don miniskirts and high heels the rest of the season. Battle Red Day at Reliant Stadium left the NFC South-leading Carolina Panthers feeling a bit blue after a 14-10 Texans victory before 70,052 fans that gave Houston a 3-5 record for the first time in its brief history.

The Texans followed a sluggish start with perhaps their most efficient second half of the season to pull off the upset at Reliant Stadium behind quarterback Tony Banks, who filled in for injured starter David Carr.
