DON’T GET ME STARTED is finding it quite difficult to remember the last few years when fans, writers, broadcasters and opponents were having a field day at the expense of the Buffalo Bills with the modern day version of the "Bickering Bills."

If it wasn't the daily controversy surrounding the Doug Flutie/Rob Johnson feud, then it was the coaching inconsistencies of Wade Phillips, Ronnie Jones, Joe Pendry & Company. Last season wasn't absent from a ton of criticism considering the 3-13 record as the woes of the Bills continued on the field and, at times, in the locker room.

Fading into the twilight are critical comments from players in the last few years; Ruben Brown wanting the Bills to run the ball more; Eric Moulds complaining about lack of production and the fact that he wasn't getting the ball. Complaints about the placekickers, sly references to the coaching staff, etc. etc. etc. There was more word action off the field than physical on field production.

The highlight of those years was the feud between Flutie and Johnson and the players that took one side or the other. A day didn't go by that volleys weren't fired at one or the other. It continued through the entire off-season until Flutie was the first to go and a year later it was Johnson.

How many remember Flutie admonishing the fans with his comment after a loss in which his performance was questioned, "You saw the game – I saw the film." Or Johnson trying to protect his image as a tough quarterback after taking sack after sack while holding on to the ball too long and the accusation that he was more interested in stats. Hey, you can even go back to Jim Kelly's late 80s blast of Howard Ballard – and the blast leveled by Thurman Thomas against Kelly in a Rochester, New York session. Those were the good old days of the "Bickering Bills." ...
