Nice to see some different guys scoring and getting into the game!
The Shania Twain commercial is one of those series of commercials where they're "explaining" hockey to people. I forgot what she explains... something about when the guys change up? Jim Belushi does one where he tells his friend to watch the GUY with the puck not the puck. I know hockey needs more fans, but we don't need fans who'll watch because Shania tells them to :)
Thanks God the Caps finally won a game.

Why didn't Lindy pull Biron after the 2nd. He let in a really soft goal. I hope this isn't the beginning of the end of the season for the Sabres. They were up 3-1!!!!!!!!!!!!

alyson
11-05-2003, 08:21 PM
The beginning of the end? It's ONE game against a team that is doing well. They played well during their road trip, held their own against Ottawa. They'll be fine... be glad we're not the Caps or Pitt.

I'm begging you to get off the Cujo thing. It's not going to happen! Hell let's get Marc Andre Fleury and Felix Povin too!

IF you were going to deal goaltending, send Biron to the Aves for Alex Tanguay or Derrk Morris

I am close to saying "I'm embarrassed to be a Sabres fan", but, of course, that doesn't mean I'm giving up. But damn, did we SUCK ASS in the last half of the game! Marty was terrible tonight. It might be one of the few times this season that goalie bashing would be warranted, as not only did the team play with no heart during the last half, Biron left some soft ones by. All in all, my wife has the upper hand tonight, because at least the Sharks got a point against NJ.

Ouch, I saw all the empty seats on TV, but didn't think it was that bad...attendance at 10,584.

Turf
11-05-2003, 09:56 PM
The empty seats are because nobody wants Ruff anymore. We are on year 7 for Christ sakes. Why don't we call them the Buffalo Ruffs.
The message has been sent, but Tom has been misinformed by Quinn prior to the season.
Both Regier and Ruff have been here too long. It's really that simple.

JD
11-05-2003, 09:59 PM
The empty seats are because Hockey is becoming unpopular, lets face it. Its the truth.

They need to take away the red line, and have OT a shootout, this will bring ALOT of fans to games garunteed!

Ð
11-05-2003, 10:44 PM
Didn't Adelphia give out tons of comp tickets before they went under, distorting the crowd sizes ?

What you're really seeing now is the true attendance numbers...

SkateZilla
11-06-2003, 05:28 AM
i agree about the Take out the redline part.

Ð
11-06-2003, 07:05 AM
Taking out the redline is a double-edge sword. You may have more floaters getting breakaways because of it, but it would be cancelled out by the fact that the defensemen will have to hang back with the floaters , killing any offensive contribution by the defensemen in the offensive zone.

I know, I know, you'll point to the Olympic hockey games, but typically international hockey is just as low scoring. Once the novelty wears off, succcessful defensive teams are what always win championships, so the net gain to the fan, excitement-wise will be zero.

It's not just Buffalo- There were more empty seats than people on a lot of the TV games-

1) Buffalo always has tough times selling tickets mid-week when there is a southern division or most western division teams come to town. Nashville, Atlanta, Phoenix, - they won't draw flies on a Tuesday or Wednesday.

2) The lower seats, (the ones you can see on tv) are outrageous in price- $50-$75. Many of the el-cheapo seats get sold- if not most of them. Used to be you could sneak down after 1 period. These arenas now make it tougher to do so.

3) Hockey is becoming soccer. 34 shutouts this season registered to 29 different goalies. I'll bet half of those were of the 1-0 or 2-0 variety.

No way, you take out the redline and one of the defensemen becomes a free safety like in football. It'll be exciting for about two weeks until the defensemen adjust.
