    Patrice Bergeron

This kid is looking awesome so far. He has made some spectacular plays including tonight's assist on Sergei Samsanov's goal.

I think he gives Marc Andre Fleury, Pens Goalie, a serious run for the money as rookie of the year.

        Fantasy bullcrap

He's 18, an got 4 goals, 5 assists playing on the Bruins' 3rd line with PJ Axelson and Brian Rolston- not quite Murray and Samsanov there. ..... and is a playmaker! - most important- he's conrtributing NOW! He's getting on the PP and they are putting this kid in clutch situations and he's come through.

Not sure if you have had the opportunity to catch the B's, but they have had a great season so far. They had a better west coast trip than the Sabres did, and have come back in a bunch of games from 2-3 goal deficits to tie /win. Bergeron has sparked some of these comebacks with clutch 3rd period points.

The Sabres have finished out of the playoffs and continue to draft guys we won't see for years- if EVER. Who's the last #1 we drafted playing a regular shift for Buffalo right now?

        2003
        5 Thomas Vanek

        2002
        11 Keith Ballard
        20 C Daniel Paille

        2001
        22 C Jiri Novotny

        2000
        15 F Artem Kryukov

        1999
        20 L Barrett Heisten

        1998
        18 D Dmitri Kalinin

        1997
        21 G Mika Noronen

Kalinin isn't close to being our best defenseman and Nooronen is the 3rd best Goalie on the depth chart.

That's all we have to show for it. It would be one thing if this team drafted guys who wound up with other teams (like the Islanders- they have an all-star team playing for other organizations)

But looking back- The Sabres haven't drafted well for AGES!Sabres Draft History

Look at this Islander "They got away" team- I heard the other night that there were 45 ex Islanders in the league.

I'll say this- I wish the Sabres draft department was half as good.

            C Cory Stillman
            C Tim Connolly
            C Travis Green
            (Could pencil in Spezza here)

            LW Raffi Torres
            LW Todd Bertuzzi
            LW Taylor Pyatt
            LW Jan Hlavac

            RW J.P. Dumont
            RW Zigmund Palffy
            Jiri Dopita

            D Eric Brewer
            D Zdeno Chara
            D Dick Tarnstrom
            D Wade Redden
            D Scott Lachance
            D Bryan McCabe
            Darius Kasparaitis

            G Roberto Luongo
            G Jamie McLennan
            G Tommy Salo

This could be a decent playoff team

They drafted some unproven Austrian Strudel-maker in the first round.

I understand the 3-4 year wait- but going back 10-12 years- you're lucky to get more than 2 productive players a year tops!
