    Owner, coach to meet

    NASHVILLE - Dolphins owner H. Wayne Huizenga said Sunday from his Fort Lauderdale home he plans to meet with coach Dave Wannstedt on Tuesday in hopes of improving the team's performance after three losses in the past four games.

    However, Huizenga was defiant in his support of Wannstedt keeping his job for the rest of the season. Asked if he would consider changing coaches in midseason, Huizenga said strongly: ``No, absolutely not. I have no interest in replacing Dave Wannstedt.''

    Time, tenure winding down on Dolphins coach Wannstedt

    Miami coach Dave Wannstedt did not get his usual one-year contract extension before the start of the season. This has led to season-long speculation about his future with the Dolphins, one of the AFC preseason favorites, particularly in the wake of a 5-4 record and diminished production on offense.

    In a statement issued by the team this week, club owner Wayne Huizenga pledged his support for Wannstedt. A team spokesman declined to characterize it as a vote of confidence, saying that Huizenga was merely answering a question posed by a reporter.
