All: The new Billszone site with the updated software is scheduled to be turned on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The company that built it, Dynascale, estimates a FOUR HOUR shut down, from 8pm Pacific, (5pm Eastern) while they get it up and running. Nobody will be able to post in any forum until they are done. Afterwards, you may need to do a web search for the site, as old links will not work, because the site is getting a new IP address. Please be patient. If there are bugs, we will tackle them one at a time. Remember the goal is to be up and running with no glitches by camp. Doing this now assures us of that, because it gives us all summer to get our ducks in a row. Thank you!
The rule depends upon how many years a player has in the league. There are exceptions for retired players (i.e. Dieon F. Sanders)
And if a player doesn't want to play for a team, a team usually will not pick him up. He probably expressed via his agent what teams he was interested in. Brian probably just knows someone who knows his agent and is just expressing what the agent said.
He is also due a $2 million options bonus in 2005 and that will impact any club from claiming him on waivers.
According to ESPN:
If he is claimed by another team, he must report, since the trade deadline has passed. But because he is a "vested" veteran, he has the right to declare himself an unrestricted free agent after the 2003 season. If he is unclaimed by Wednesday, which is anticipated, then Johnson becomes free to sign with any team.
