Jim Fassel was surrounded in a corner of the Giants locker room, upbeat and chatty as those around him marveled at his Houdini-like ability to escape peril. The next Sunday, he was jeered out of Giants Stadium, ushering in the unofficial Fassel Watch.
At times like these, greasing the skids to hasten the ouster of the coach becomes an obsession, the bigger picture often obscured by the ravenous hunger to run the bum out of town. Once the blood of a coach is in the water, the sharks have a field day. For Fassel, that blood was spilled throughout the 27-7 loss to the Falcons.
