During the Jets' 27-24 overtime victory against Oakland last Sunday, it became obvious what quarterback Chad Pennington needs to take the offense to the next level -- a big wide receiver.
Repeatedly, Pennington tried to hit Santana Moss (5-foot-9) and Curtis Conway (6-1) on quick slants, the signature pattern of the West Coast offense, and often the plays were broken up and drives stalled. Neither Moss nor Conway are tall enough to shield defensive backs or strong enough to outmuscle them for the ball, so cornerbacks are able to go over or through them to force incompletions.
