Butch Davis' popularity with Cleveland Browns fans could be tested in light of his release of receiver Kevin Johnson on Tuesday.
Johnson was the team's leading receiver in each of his four-plus years with the Browns.
Fans identified with him since he was one of just three left from the original draft class of 1999, and because he had often said he wanted to spend his entire career in Cleveland.
