Coaches' split adds extra intrigue to Belichick, Parcells matchup

If their paths cross during Sunday night's pre-game warm-up and they happen to nod in each other's direction, it will be the most communication Bill Belichick and Bill Parcells have had since Jan. 4, 2000, when the son left the coaching nest and caused the father to feel deceived, embarrassed and betrayed.

For the first time since Belichick shocked Parcells and the New York Jets by announcing his resignation at a news conference that had been called to introduce him as their new coach, they will be on opposite sidelines in a game that features division leaders with 7-2 records.

Parcells, Belichick can shake off their differences

One is a master motivator.
The other is a terrific tactician.

One is a control freak who can captivate a room full of reporters with his biting wit and dry sense of humor, then insult them by being abrupt and condescending.

The other is uncomfortable in a room full of reporters, protects his privacy religiously and is almost paranoid about disclosing any information about his team or himself -- such as he loves to sail on Nantucket Sound and play air guitar while rocking out with his good friend, Jon Bon Jovi.

One is 62 and divorced, with dyed-blond hair that makes him look like Gorgeous George going through a midlife wrestling crisis.

The other is 51 and happily married with three children, and the only time he turned blond was an offseason when he spent so much time on his sailboat, his chest hair changed color.
