The Buffalo Bills, or at least the media and fan speculation, would lead you to believe that the answer to the Bills' sagging defensive line would be to grab an established veteran. Josh Evans was one rumor, but since his substance abuse suspension was overturned, he signed with the Jets. Sam Adams appears to be chasing the dollars and it looks like he will be a Bengal or a Seahawk. So who's left? The Dolphins recent cut of Daryl Gardner is an option. But the rumor mills are circulating with opinion that he comes with baggage.

The Following article by Ethan Skolnick appeared in the Miami Herald:

This article brings up a good point about how we don't know all the facts of a players personal life. That and the limited knowledge of the media.

I find it amazing that the media is able to whip up such fevered public opinion on certain personalities (O.J.), while others they only touch upon the basic public facts with little or no criticism. Why is this? What are the factors used to determine whether a news article is "worthy" of sensationalistic reporting? I am certain the type of character they have plays a role. Are they charitable and highly visible within their community? Is there a history of problems in their past?

These are probably some of the same questions we ask and answer on our own, possibly without even knowing it whenever we hear of a celebrity getting into legal or civil trouble. Perhaps next time we should consider the sources of our information, wait for all the facts, THEN make an informed opinion about the subject. Sometimes however, it is all to easy to get wrapped up in the media hype.
