4 Raiders Test Positive For THG

Four members of the Oakland Raiders, including former Redskins defensive tackle Dana Stubblefield, have tested positive for the designer steroid THG, a source familiar with the results confirmed Sunday.

The results, which were first reported by "The NFL Today" and CBS SportsLine, marked the first time the drug has been linked to athletes outside of track and field and cast new suspicions on a Bay Area laboratory previously identified as the source of the steroid by U.S. anti-doping officials.

The four players that tested positive were Stubblefield, center Barret Robbins, linebacker Bill Romanowski and defensive tackle Chris Cooper, the source confirmed. The players face four-game suspensions unless their appeals are successful.

NFL suspends sentence against 4 Raiders

NFL players who tested positive for the designer steroid THG - namely four members of the Oakland Raiders - will not be punished, officials said yesterday.
The decision was a nod to the union's argument that players should not be penalized for taking a substance that wasn't illegal when they took it.

"The four Raiders will not be suspended," union president Gene Upshaw said. "Just imagine if you're driving home tonight and there's a yield sign and you went though it and some guy comes from behind and changes it to a stop sign. I need notice, my players need notice."

But a union source said the four - Chris Cooper, Dana Stubblefield, Barret Robbins and Bill Romanowski - will be subject to testing for cause, meaning they can and will be tested far more frequently than other players.
