    Pats slam Tuna

Bill Parcells walked onto the field for pregame warmups at Gillette Stadium last night to the strains of Pearl Jam's ``Dissident.''

The Dallas Cowboys head coach, and one-time Patriots [stats, news] dissenter, then spent several minutes standing alone near midfield, exchanging quick greetings with acquaintances from his former team. Bill Belichick was not among them. ESPN cameras showed Parcells looking to the Pats' side, presumably at Belichick, although neither made a move.

    That was the pregame standoff.

The postgame detente came when the two coaches pushed through a throng of cameras at midfield and exchanged a robust hug.

In between, the Pats survived a war of attrition and posted a 12-0 victory, their first shutout of the Belichick era and the franchise's first since 1996. It wasn't pretty, but it surely did the trick for Belichick, who saw his team win its sixth straight game while denying his nemesis another Tuna Bowl victory.
