Rivers stats are impressive he could be a solid pick up

and

Roethlisberger could also be a solid pick up

Rivers and Roethlisberger are at the same hieght Rivers is just a couple of pounds lighter so he could be a little more ofa mobile threat and he still is a load to handel and he could fall to us.

I have heard some good things about Roethliberger. from what I under stand he has good pocket presence but from what we see in his stats he cam run with it as well.

So either of these two guys would be a very good pick up.

Rivers is second in NCAA history in passing yards. Intriguing when you find out that he's had 4 different offensive coordinators in his 4 years at NC State.

for any QB no matter college or pro to go through 4 different OC and still put up good nubers is impresive.

Manning is ok, but I would like a QB with some fire and passion. I hope he's not like his brother. I still favor Rivers.

I don't like Rivers all that much. His arm is kinda suspect.

But give me Roethlisberger any day. I love that kid.

Roethlisberger is the real deal. Hes got an arm, he can get out of the pocket, and he is vert smart. He reminds me of Chad Pennington. Buffalo would be a nice fit for him, because he wouldnt have to play right away and could adjust to the surroundsings. Not to mention he would have Eric Moulds and Travis Henry to back him up.

Out of three you listed Ben is the top QB. Manning has no fire, Phillip has a questionable arm and has developed some bad mechanics. You wanna look at some numbers take a look at Josh Harris's numbers:
8- Josh Harris, Bowling Green 6-3 238lbs

Josh Harris is one of the most dangerous QB’s in this draft class. He can beat you with his arm or his legs. He has a cannon for an arm, and amazing speed for his size. He is a very accurate passer and can most definitely sling the long ball. He is a consistent threat to run out of the pocket and can throw on the run. He has not yet faces big time competition in college while playing in the MAC. He will need some time to develop, but the kid is simply going to be a star in my opinion. But hey don’t believe me, talk to the Mr. Jim Tressel about him: Upon review of Ohio State's triple overtime win over N.C. State, coach Jim Tressel stopped by the defensive coaches' offices Sunday night to ask their final appraisal of Wolfpack quarterback Philip Rivers. "Is Philip Rivers about as good as any (quarterback) you've seen?" Tressel asked. "Their response was, 'So far. Wait 'til you see Josh Harris.'"
-- Ohio State Coach Jim Tressel.Or if you don’t like that one you can also hear from Toledo LB Tom Ward who also plays in the MAC :“He reminds me of Michael Vick . . . He can run very well and cut back and forth. Once you get him out of the pocket and scrambling, boom, he hits someone deep for a big play, or he takes off running and leaves you frustrated." Also to add as a last note Harris has a total of 81 TD (3 come way of receiving).

He is definitely a qb of the times! Good runner and passer! Should be a nice pickup in the 3rd or 4th round!
I dont think he will go any higher!

He hasn't developed bad mechanics. he's always thrown that way. During the FSU game, last Saturday, the commentators started talking about his throwing motion. They said that since he was 4 yrs old he's been throwing a regular size football. That has always been his throwing motion. When Norm Chow (OC @ USC) was the OC at NC State he decided not to mess with the motion because of how accurate he was and how quick the ball comes out. 72.3% completion percentage!!!

When he gets to the NFL they are going to redo his mechanics. Just b.c something works in college doesnt mean its going to work in the NFL ala Steve Spurrier. And yes he has developed bad mechanics since he was 4 years old. He grew up with bad ones, granted he makes them work but still not somebody I would want to have on my team who may have to start next season

TigerJ

Whether he got them at 4 years old or last week, they're still considered to be bad mechanics, and teams will have to consider that when they develop their value boards.

Prolific stats in college are no guarrantee of success as a pro. Case in point: Alex Van Pelt. Another more recent case in point: Josh McCown who is about to be labeled a bust by the team that drafted him. I'm not saying Rivers can't succeed. With his unorthodox throwing motion teams will not spend as high a draft pick on him as they would with a more orthodox QB. When he gets top the pros he will have a tougher time convincing coaches to give him a chance to move up the depth chart.

Like it or not, his unorthodox throwing motion and less than ideal arm strength makes him a risk to draft. He'll be drafted lower than he otherwise might, and his chance of success in the league is correspondingly reduced.

A couple QBs out of the Pac 10 that warrant consideration are Andrew Walter out of Arizona State and Cody Pickett of Washington. Walter is a lot like Roethlisberger, a big pocket passer with a rocket arm. Cody Pickett is a gunslinger figuratively speaking, who's related to a rodeo star. Walter is an underclassman who may come out.

Josh Harris has loads of physical talent but plays undisciplined. In the Bowling Green/Miami of Ohio matchup, Roethlisberger showed him up badly. He would take a little more time to develop than some of the higher rated guys.

My personal favorite is Losman whom the Tulane coaching staff considers more talented than Pat Ramsey.

First of all, there are plenty of great qb's who were pocket passers in college and went on to have HOF careers, they all had heavy feet and low mobility(Marino, Kelly, Montana, Bradshaw). They let their brains and arm strength work for them. But then there are guys who were light on their feet with great scrambling ability, not necessarily fast but quick on their feet(Young, Elway, Plummer, Gannon, Flutie)these guys make plays because they can move the pocket and create passing lanes. I would definately put Rivers in this category. The third group, which I feel are very unproven as winners in the NFL style of game, are pure running qb's(Cunningham, Vick, Culpepper, McNabb)these guys are very exciting but durability vs 280lb LB's and 300lb DL's can easily injury them and make them less of a threat. Often these guys will end becoming more of a scrambling qb after injuries, and it is then that they really find sucess.

I feel that Rivers is by far the smartest qb of the bunch to come out this year. There have been a ton of "pro-type" qb's who have all the physical attributes(A. Smith, Johnson, Leaf, Bledsoe) on paper they should have been great but the reality is they're dumb as bricks---and a dumb qb will never be a winner in the NFL!!

The thing I like about Roethliberger is he can tuck it and turn it up field he may not have vick type speed but he can move it with his legs, but I am going by stats. I saw cody pickett play in one game he did pretty good he can throw the ball well he moves around in the pocket. He can even tuck it and run but if you go by his stats it seems like half the time he runs it he gets negitive yards in the game.

heres his stats:

Roethlisberger is impressive. He really has no obvious weaknesses. Great arm, mobility, inteligence and on field leadership. The only question is his level of competition, but the MAC isn't as much of an ugly stepsister as it used to be. MAC teams have been pretty competitive this year in inter coference play.

DraftBoy
11-19-2003, 01:03 PM
Competitive MAC teams include:
Bowling Green-Josh Harris
Miami of Ohio-Ben
Toledo
Marshall
Northern Illinois

All are/were ranked in the top 35 of the nation

NC-BILLS44

Impressive, but not the talent level of the SEC or other major conferences:
LSU
Georgia
Florida
Tennessee
Arkansas
Alabama
Auburn

Or Big Ten

Ohio St.
Michigan
Purdue
Michigan St.
Iowa
Minnesota
Wisconsin

They don't play team like these almost every week.

Rivers comes to play reguardless of who the opponent is or isn't. We'll make sure to bring that Vick kid along as well as the kid in Miami as the ACC turns from the Cupcake Conference to the top BCS Conference.:afro: ACC COUNTRY
