Confident that Brett Favre will start Sunday against San Francisco, Green Bay coach Mike Sherman was adamant Monday that Favre is playing through a broken thumb not to keep his consecutive-games-played streak alive but to help the 5-5 Packers keep winning.
Favre has started 183 regular-season games in a row since 1992 and 200 straight games including playoffs, a record for a National Football League quarterback.
With Green Bay in pursuit of a playoff berth, the Packers think Favre is the best person to lead their offense despite his bad statistical game Sunday and an injury that would be debilitating for most quarterbacks.
