The last time David Carr found himself in this predicament, nursing an injury in the middle of a game week, he refused to rule himself out until a minute before kickoff.

There wasn't much chance of Carr recovering from an ankle sprain in record time, but the competitor in him refused to give in until the last possible moment.

There will be no such mystery this time around. Texans coach Dom Capers took care of that Monday when he named Tony Banks as his starting quarterback for Sunday's game against New England after an MRI exam on Carr's right shoulder revealed a sprained AC joint.

"It's almost comical," Carr said. "I've been injured twice in the last couple of weeks and you wonder why? But you're reminded that we're not always going to know the answer. Everything happens for a reason, and I know things will work out. I have a higher faith than what's going on here.
