Playoff picture crowded, but Chiefs still rule

By now, members of the 1972 Miami Dolphins are over their champagne hangover after celebrating the end of another threat to their perfect season.
Those old Dolphins could have popped the cork a long time ago. Undefeated seasons in the National Football League are a thing of the past. All the Cincinnati Bengals' 24-19 upset of the previously unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs did was reinforce that fact.

The Bengals' win also proved how wildly unpredictable the NFL has become. Teams that used to be good are suddenly bad, teams that were bad are now good and teams in the middle can't figure out what they are.

"That's the nature of this league right now," said coach Gregg Williams, whose Buffalo Bills (4-6) are among the teams that have fallen short of expectations. "I think every single team across the league feels they can win every Sunday. The talent level is dispersed pretty evenly across the league and I think that's what makes this the most exciting league in professional sports because every team has a chance to win on Sunday."
