The Vikings' on-field problems took a sudden and alarming back seat to off-field problems Tuesday morning when defensive end Kenny Mixon was arrested for drunken driving in Hennepin County for the third time in 16 months.
News of Mixon's arrest hit the team less than 24 hours after the Vikings learned standout defensive end Kevin Williams was arrested on the same charge Thursday night. Williams informed coach Mike Tice of the arrest Monday afternoon, the day after the Vikings' 28-18 loss at Oakland, their fourth straight defeat after a 6-0 start.
Tice said a large portion of his weekly Wednesday team meeting would be dedicated to the arrests. According to team officials, Mixon and Williams have been fined, up to $25,000, for conduct detrimental to the team. Both will play Sunday against the Detroit Lions at the Metrodome.
