As coaches will tell you, football is a numbers game. Right now, Tim Rattay's are better than Jeff Garcia's.

For that reason, Rattay, who is 100 percent healthy, probably will start at quarterback for the 49ers on Sunday in Green Bay, Wis., instead of Garcia, who is 60-70 percent with a sprained ankle.

Although coach Dennis Erickson did not make an announcement Tuesday on his starting quarterback for this short-week game, he implied that Garcia's health would preclude him from playing against the Packers at Lambeau Field.

Drum roll, please -- Your starter for Sunday's crucial game against the Packers in Green Bay?

Tim Rattay.

For the third-straight game Rattay will get the call against the Packers, who are also 5-5 and fighting for a playoff spot. Starter Jeff Garcia ran and cut during Wednesday's practice and looked good on the high ankle sprain he sustained Oct. 26 against the Cardinals. But coach Dennis Erickson will hold off on Garcia until he achieves a higher degree of health.

Garcia told Erickson he was "about 75 percent."
